Alvaro Siza's archive for the design of Malagueira is part of the Drawing Matter collection. Partnering with two London architecture schools during the 2014–2015 school year (Kingston University Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture and Design and the Sir John Cass Faculty of Art, Architecture and Design) Drawing Matter arranged for three groups of students to undertake a research trip to Malagueira and visit the drawing collection in Somerset. Each design studio then set its own brief.

Students developed their designs around the ideas in the work and archive of Siza, with their tutors Florian Beigel and Philip Christou at the Cass, Hugh Strange and Cathy Hawley, and Pierre d'Avoine and Colette Sheddick at Kingston.

The exhibition at the end of the year featured the unrealised designs of Siza together with the student design proposals. Presented in Evora, it envisaged possible futures for Malagueira in which the revolutionary spirit of community that first informed it was brought into present day conditions.
